Bubbles... Tiny Bubbles

We have some super fun company coming in town for the weekend! We are so excited to see some of our pals that we don't get to see very often. I moved all of the boys' bath stuff down to our bathroom to make room for our guests upstairs. I couldn't resist letting the boys have some bubbles and turning the jets on. ;)

Drew loved the bubbles, but wasn't too sure about the jets being turned on. He kept trying to eat the bubbles. Ha! It was the cutest thing. He would stick his face in, get a mouth full, and then laugh his head off. Who says that bubble baths are for girls?!?!

These Boots Shoes Were Made for Walking

On Monday morning (10/12/09) Drew took his official first steps! I didn't even cry. Aren't you proud of me??? My eyes filled up with tears until he looked up at me with his face beaming with pride. I couldn't help but to smile and laugh along with him. It was one of those moments that you just want to tuck away in your memory and replay often. My baby boy is officially a toddler. And I couldn't be happier!

This video is from last night (Tuesday, October 13th)
* Please excuse "Cowboy Jessie" in the background. You know that my eldest never breaks character. ;)

To celebrate his new skill, Grammie bought Drew his first set of "real" shoes (not Pediped) as an early birthday present. We had to search high and low for the correct size. Apparently, Drew has a very wide foot - a size 5 1/2 extra wide, to be exact. I told the salesman that he had Barney Rubble feet. ;)

I have a feeling that my little Boog will put many miles on his new kicks. Ha!

My New Nephews!

It seems like every where that I turn lately, I read about/hear about/know people who are adopting children. Maybe it is just because I am more sensitive to the topic since my sister and brother-in-law announced, about a year ago, that they were planning to adopt. I have thought about them, prayed for them, and listened to all of their steps through the process and I am so proud of them for the choices that they have made.

At first, I have to admit, that I had some serious concerns and questions. My sister has been a social worker for several years now and has dealt with lots of foster kids in her line of work. They softened her heart and gave her the desire to adopt an older child. Initially, they were planning for a little boy that was between the ages of 6-8. I've heard the sad stories of kids that were "in the system." I worried about my sister and Jeff parenting kids that had been through abuse and had lots of emotional baggage. My sisterly instincts kicked in and wanted to protect Becca from the heartache of mothering children that had a hard past.

Then, my heart changed.

As people began to ask questions and voice their concerns, I started to analyze my feelings as well. The first question was always, "Have they been trying to get pregnant for long?" No. They haven't been "trying" at all. Adoption was their first choice for starting their family. Then the next question was always, "Why do they want to adopt a child that is that old? Don't they want a baby?" No. They have hearts for kids that sit in foster homes day in and day out waiting for someone to want them. They want a child that is deemed "difficult to place" because they aren't a baby.

As I started to think about all of these questions, I realized that what Becca & Jeff were doing is totally unselfish. They aren't concerned about what everyone always thinks about as reasons not to adopt - the cost, the questionable past of the children, many unknowns, not physically being pregnant, not having the newborn phase, etc. They just want to love children that may not have ever known a forever family.

That makes me so proud of them and in awe of their faithfulness.

All that being said, Becca & Jeff are now fostering 2 little boys that they hope to adopt as soon as possible. There is lots of paperwork and time constraints and so on and so forth throughout the process. But, to Becca & Jeff, these 2 children are already their sons (even if they don't have the papers to prove it just yet). And, I couldn't be more excited for them!

We have gotten to spend time with them over the last 2 weekends and they are such precious, precious children. They are so loving and super sweet. They have stolen my heart and I love them to bits. I am thrilled to be their aunt!

I would love to post their sweet little pictures, so that you all could see them. But, because they aren't officially adopted, we have to respect their privacy and confidentiality. They are cute as can be, though. :)

Clayton has handled all of this so well. I worried about what to tell him and how to explain adoption to him. I stressed about it way to much. We sat him down and explained the process as best as we could and answered any questions that he had. I made it much more complicated than it had to be. He loved A&J from the minute that he met them. They were playing superheroes and dressing up within minutes. To his precious little unjaded mind, they are just his cousins and that is all there is to it. It has been so fun to watch them interact!

So, now I have 2 nephews and a whole new respect for everyone involved in the adoption process. It has been neat to experience firsthand and so inspiring! Although A&J are already my nephews in my heart, I can't wait for that sweet day when it all becomes official! ;)

Our First Taste of Kindergarten

A couple of weeks ago, we found out that the elementary school down the street was offering story time for preschoolers that will be entering kindergarten next year. I thought that was such a great idea! It will be a fun way for Clayton to get comfortable with the school that he will probably attend next year and (hopefully) ease my nerves a little bit too. :)

Today was the first story time, and it was great! To say that I have a little bit of anxiety about Clayton going to kindergarten next year would be a huge understatement. To be honest, just the thought of it makes my eyes well up with tears. I feel like how we choose to school our kids is the next big hurdle in our journey through parenting our kids. There are so many options (public school, private school, university programs, homeschooling) and so much pressure that I honestly don't know what to do. Wade and I are both praying for discernment to determine what is best for our family.

I must say that visiting our elementary school today gave me such a peace about Clayton going there. Everyone was so warm and friendly! I immediately recognized the librarian from our church. That definitely made me feel good. One of my prayers is that my kids' will always have godly men and women as teachers (whether that be in public school or private school). I think that is so important. I wondered when I met the librarian if that was God's little way of showing me that our public schools are filled with Christian teachers. That thought is such a comfort to me!

Clayton loved story time and is so excited to go again!

Is it just me or does a "real" school make him look even more grown up???

As for my littlest baby, he has decided that baby food is so last month. He will still eat baby oatmeal for breakfast and rice cereal before bed, but prefers finger foods during the day. His favorites right now are avocados, green beans, bananas and blueberries.

I have been trying to offer him a sippy cup more often since I know that bottles will be a thing of the past in the next month or so. Yesterday he crawled around all day with his sippy in his mouth. Too funny. ;)

He hasn't officially taken any steps yet, but he is pretty dang close. He is getting really brave with his furniture cruising. He lets go of one piece of furniture and lunges to the next. It probably won't be long before he is toddling around. That will be good for my back, but hard on my heart. :)

Today Drew has been super attached to a golf ball. Weird, huh? He has held it all morning long. He even held it while he was eating. I included this picture for his Grammie & Papaw. Looks like y'all may have a little golfing buddy before too long. Ha!

Happy Friday! Hope y'all have a good weekend!

Play Ball!

I've never been a big sports fan. If we go to a game or a game watching party, I am there more for the social aspect than the actual sporting event.

However, ya'll, I have a new favorite sport - 3 & 4 year old t-ball! I could watch it all. day. long. I didn't expect to enjoy it so much, but I really do. It makes me thrilled to pieces that I have two little boys that I get to watch play ball. I just think that they look so cute in those tiny little baseball pants and cleats with their baseball caps on. And, don't even get me started on how precious they are when they cross home plate or race from the infield to get a ball. So stinkin' adorable!

Clayton's team is called the Florida Gators and he is #8. He really enjoyed the game despite the fact that (unbeknownst to us) he was on the verge of a 24 hour bug. A few hours after his game, he was throwing up and running a temperature of 101.2. :( He seems much better today and hasn't had a bit of fever. I'm so thankful that it wasn't anything more severe.

Seriously, have you ever seen anything so cute?!?!

For those of you who actually understand baseball, I totally apologize for any technical terms that I botched. I don't really know much about the lingo yet. I'm just loving the little uniforms and cheering, "That's my baby!" when he crosses home plate. Ha!
