Dallas Zoo with the Hunts

Mrs. Leah was able to get us a good deal on tickets to the Dallas Zoo through the hospital.  We decided to go and check it out before it got too hot and too crowded.  So fun!

Clayton read "Mr. Popper's Penguins" this year, so he had to get a pic with the penguins.  ;)

We got to see the zookeeper feed the lion through the fence.

We were super excited about feeding the giraffes, but it was too wet for them to stand under the platform where guests can feed them.  So... we didn't get to.  Bummer!

The bigs carried the littles to the car.  It's pretty handy to have big kids, I must say!
It was a super fun day with our super fun friends!

Home Education Day at the Ballpark in Arlington - 4/17

On April 17th, we joined some friends at the Home Education Day at the Ballpark.  It turned out to be such a fun day -  I'm so glad that we were able to participate.  We were a bit unprepared for the chilly weather, but we managed to huddle up and stay warm.  :)

There was a educational program at 10:15, and then the ball game started at 1:05.  I was a bit concerned about the game being during Owen's nap, but he was such a trooper!  He loved every minute - we all did.

The boys loved seeing their friends from church at the Ballpark.
During the zoo presentation, the kids got to see a Boa Constrictor, Porcupine, Great Horned Owl, American Alligator, Trumpeter Horn Bill (bird), an Anteater, and even a Cheetah!  They brought the cheetah out right on the field.  Apparently, it was raised with a black lab, so they travel together.  Very interesting...
 O-ster loves his Daddy!
The zookeeper said something about how porcupines urinate on their mates, which caused the crowd to erupt in laughter.  We all know that potty humor is a big hit with 3rd graders.  ;)
This is Fitz, the Trumpeter Horn Bill.  This was taken just before Fitz flew the coop, literally.  Homeboy took off and flew out of the stadium.  Ha!  There were some frantic zookeepers when he didn't come right back.  Later, we learned (via Facebook) that they were able to retrieve him.  Silly bird.
Fitz got a little too close for comfort to O.  ;)

There was also a penguin.  My kids loved being so close to the animals.

The cutest Ranger fans in the stadium.  :)

I'm so glad that we were able to share such a fun day with friends!  Homeschooling is definitely not for the faint of heart - it is so much harder than I ever imagined it to be.  Getting to have family time during the week is a definite perk.  I'm grateful that we get to take advantage of these types of opportunities with our boys.  :)

Zoo Day

On May 22nd, Leah and I loaded up our troops and headed for a day at the zoo.  We figured that we would go before it got too hot and before school got out for everyone else.  It ended up being such a fun day!  Our kids were all soooooo good and we were able to stay until the zoo closed at 5pm.  We shut the joint down!  No one melted down - even Sadie and Owen, who had missed their naps.  Leah and I were both shocked, amazed, and super impressed.  ;)

Our sweet little monkeys watching the monkeys

"Wook!  Wook!"  I bet that we heard that a hundred times throughout the day from my O.  I love that he is old enough to notice the animals and get into the experience.  :)

These three had the same favorite animal - the roly polys!  They spent a good 20 minutes digging in the dirt to find them.  Ha!

I had to get O's picture with this little elephant statue.  I have the same picture of Clayton and Drew.
 Baby Clayton and Baby Drew

Love this girl!  She is my partner is crime and the best friend I could ever dream of.
I'm so grateful that I get to do life with her.
Owen kicked back in the stroller, and I thought that he had fallen asleep.  When I went to take his picture, he flashed a big ole grin.  Playing possum...  ;)

The birds are always a big hit with our kids.

A sweet lady had coaxed a bird onto her hand, and she was kind to share him with Clayton.

We decided to take the kids on a train ride, and they were all pumped.  Unfortunately, we made it about 10 yards before the train broke down on the tracks.  Wah-wah!  :(  We were worried that the kids would be super bummed.  But... they took it like champs and no one complained a bit.  Yay!

We traded our train tickets for a merry go round ride.  This guy was happy as a clam!
One last stop at the flamingos (Mags had been asking about them - she was so patient to wait til the last 10 minutes of the day) then we left just as they were shutting the zoo down.

We had such a fun day with the Hunt chicas!  It made me so excited for all of the adventures that this summer holds.  Bring it on!  :)
